 2008 Election Schedule

 Polling places are open from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM.  Village residents will vote at one of three polling places, depending on your ward.

Precinct 1 (Wards 1, 2, 3) - Trinity Community Church, 9450 North 60th Street

Precinct 2 (Wards 4, 5, 7) - Brown Deer Library, 5600 West Bradley Road
Precinct 3 (Wards 6, 8, 9) - St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 8080 North 47th Street

 Nomination and Filing Requirements

As a candidate for a Village Office in the Village of Brown Deer, you will be required to follow specific procedures set forth in the Wisconsin Statutes in order to have your name included on an election ballot. The purpose of this memorandum will be to serve as a reminder of the important points set forth in the Wisconsin Statutes governing election requirements. Copies of election forms as well as pertinent election information is available on the web page of the State of Wisconsin Election Board at http://elections.state.wi.us. You are encouraged to read the law itself or to consult the Election and Campaign Manual published by the State Elections Board. Copies of both the Statutes and Manual are available for review at the Village Hall. In addition, instructions are provided on the attached forms that you may wish to review prior to properly completing and filing the forms.

EB-162 Declaration of Candidacy

This form, a copy of which is attached, must be properly completed and filed by all candidates for elected office. This form must be on file with the Village Clerk no later than the deadline for filing nomination papers.

EB-1 Campaign Registration Statement

This form, a copy of which is attached, must be filed by candidates as soon as the intent to become a candidate is known; before campaign funds are collected or spent. Failure to file this statement by the deadline date will result in the candidate's name not appearing on the election ballot.

You may be eligible for an exemption from filing campaign finance reports. If you are not eligible for exemption from financial reporting requirements, it is suggested that you obtain a copy of the Campaign Finance Instruction and Bookkeeping Manual and carefully review it with your campaign treasurer. A copy of this manual is available for review at the Village Hall.

EB-169 Nomination Paper for Nonpartisan Office

This form must be used for the submission of nomination signatures. No other form is acceptable. The forms may be copied or you can obtain additional copies of this form from the Village Clerk's office if necessary. The following are applicable to this form.

  • Nomination papers may not be circulated before a specified date, depending on the election date.

  • Nomination papers must be filed with the Village Clerk no later than a specified date and time, depending on the election date.

  • Each candidate must submit at least twenty (20) but no more than one hundred (100) valid signatures.

  • Each potential candidate must sign the affidavit on each nomination form under oath administered by a notary public or a person authorized to administer oath.
