BEAUTIFICATION
AND LANDSCAPING
The enhancement and maintenance of the Village's
greenery and landscaping is important. So much so, a standing committee of the
Village Board, called the Beautification
Committee, is in place to address beautification issues. The committee is
involved with proposing and carrying out public beautification improvements, as well as
reviewing landscaping plans for private developments.
If you have any ideas that will help further beautify
the Village, please contact the Department of Public Works.

collected as part of the yard waste collection program).
If you wish to begin composting on your Brown Deer
property, it is important to be aware of the requirements of the Village Code with regards
to composting in the Village. Click here to review

the condition and location of your mailbox/newspaper box. The post for these boxes should
be 24 inches from the edge of the road pavement or 18 inches behind the curbing; at a

WASTE CARTS AND RECYCLING BINS (LOST / REPAIR / REPLACEMENT)
Each Village residence is entitled to one wheeled
waste cart. If you have waste that exceeds the capacity of the cart, you may place
the extra waste in your own garbage cans at the curb along with your wheeled cart.
Remember that if the weight of the extra containers is more than the collection person can
lift, it will not be collected. You may also place separate tied garbage bags at the
curb next to the cart for garbage collection. If you place smaller tubs or boxes at
the curb filled with garbage, but you do not want the box/tub disposed of, be sure mark
the container accordingly.
If your waste cart is lost or damaged, contact
Veolia Environmental Services at (262) 679-0860 to schedule a replacement pickup. There is no cost to
replace your waste cart, however you must turn in your damaged cart in order to receive a
new or repaired cart.

SANITARY & STORM SEWER MAINTENANCE
SEWER BACKUPS
Unfortunately, sewer backups occur from time to time.
In most cases the backups are due to foreign bodies in the sewer lines, such as
tree roots or paper products improperly flushed into the sewer system. This is why
the sewer system is regularly maintained and checked on a specific schedule by Village
crews. However, if you happen to notice a sewer backup at your residence it is
important to notify the Village quickly. Contact the Department
of Public Works between the hours of 7:00 AM and 4:00 PM, or contact the Brown Deer Police Department at any other time.
SIDEWALK
MAINTENANCE
SNOW PLOWING - TIPS & INFORMATION
- A "windrow" occurs when a plow leaves a row of
snow in the driveway that you just shoveled clean. Theres nothing that the driver
can do to prevent this. It is a factor of snow, time and physics. But you as a homeowner
may be able to help yourself to reduce the impact of windrow. It is suggested that you
clear a pocket in the snow next to the driveway along the shoulder or curb. When the plow
passes, most of the snow load will go into the pocket and minimize the windrow in the
driveway. The drivers try to be careful not to knock snow into a driveway, but sometimes
windrow is inevitable. For more information, contact the Public Works Department at
357-0120 between 7:00 A.M and 4:00 P.M.
STREET
MAINTENANCE
The Village undertakes an annual Street Maintenance
Program. The street maintenance program is intended to be a proactive and
preventative maintenance effort to improve aging street infrastructure and conditions.
However, particular and immediate attention is paid to address streets in critical
or severe condition. You may contact the Public Works
Department or Community Development
Department to report street problems or inquire about the upcoming street maintenance
schedule.

TRAFFIC PROBLEMS AND SUGGESTIONS (SIGNS AND LIGHTS)
VILLAGE SIGNS AND SIGN MAINTENANCE
Traffic signs in the Village may be the
responsibility of the Village, County or State, depending on the location and purpose of
the sign. If you have noticed a sign problem (such as a sign knocked over or hidden
by vegetation), please contact the Public Works Department.

- Waste Management collects Holiday Trees and decorative
evergreen items with your regular refuse. Because many trees and wreaths are sprayed with
fire protectant or wrapped with wires, they are not considered yard waste. Anytime after
the holidays, all you need to do is set the items out for collection with your regular
refuse. Make sure that the items do not get buried in the snow. Waste Management
recommends that you stand the trees up on end next to your waste bin so they can be easily
collected. (Dont forget to remove your favorite ornaments!
- If you are having problems with your yard waste collection
or had a missed pick-up, contact Waste Management at (414)761-2100.
