Brown Deer Visioning Committee Minutes

Date: June 26, 2003

Members Present: Marty Ball, Jeff Bersch, Mary Fitzgerald, Barb Fleming, Margaret Hirschi, Anne Lutz, Bob Oates, Wayne Parker, Rick Stone, Gregg Umipeg, Carrie Weddle, Russ VanGompel, Andy Pederson, and Barb Grant.

Members Excused: John Buckley, Mike Ganzer

Barb Grant called the meeting to order at 7:05 pm. Russ VanGompel introduced the new assistant manager, Andy Pederson. The following actions were taken:

§ Approved revised meeting calendar to include additional meeting on August 14^th.

§ Reviewed Visioning Committee Mission, Village Board Organizational Assessment, and workshop and focus group reports.

§ Reviewed survey tallies to date. Selected queries to pursue in correlating key questions to age, race, and location of residence.

§ Reviewed and approved general direction of Final Report.

§ Selected comparison communities: Menomonee Falls, Glendale, Mequon, and City of Milwaukee. Reviewed selected Brown Deer and comparison census categories; asked that 1990-2000 comparisons be made between comparison communities; asked that household size be added to the analysis.

§ Noted diversity of vision statement models selected from internet sites; noted differences between “vision” (the preferred scenario for what a community should be in the future) and “mission” (what a community should do) statements.

§ Brainstormed descriptive terms to use in Vision Statement as follows:
