Village of Brown Deer to hold Community Vision Workshop

The Village of Brown Deer has begun a groundbreaking visioning process to guide future development, redevelopment, and preservation efforts in the community.  As part of the visioning process, the citizen-led Visioning Committee will be hosting a Community Vision Workshop to gather public input on current opportunities and challenges for the Village and to develop possible pro-active directions for its future.

At the February 13th Visioning Committee meeting, Robin Wettstein, workshop facilitator from VandeWalle Associates, led committee members through one of the workshop activities that gives participants an opportunity to express their hopes and fears for Brown Deer’s future.  Many committee members pointed to the educational strength of the Brown Deer school system as a major reason they moved to Brown Deer.   Others cited Brown Deer’s reliable and consistent property values, safe neighborhoods, and diverse population with strong middle-class values.  They agreed that pro-actively protecting these strengths is important to the Village’s future.

Margaret Hirschi, Visioning Committee member, stated, “I feel good about the number of people who will attend the workshop March 1st.  I think people want to participate and help us form a plan for Brown Deer’s future.”

Barbara Grant, Vision Project facilitator states, “Public input early in the process is extremely important in helping the Visioning Committee understand local quality of life values and investment and lifestyle goals.  When a good cross-section of any community gives just three hours of their time to citizen-friendly, informative, and thought-provoking workshop activities, amazing things start to happen.  Rather than waiting to see what the future brings, residents, property-owners, and other Village customers see opportunities for controlling and enhancing their future.”

The workshop will be held on Saturday March 1, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Brown Deer Middle School cafeteria.
