Mission Statement of the Village Board of Trustees The mission of the Brown Deer Village Board is to understand and responsibly fulfill the community vision.Organizational Assessment Process Beginning in late 2001, and concluding in the spring of 2002, the Village Board of Trustees was involved in completing an Organizational Assessment. This assessment challenged the Village Board to answer several questions about the role, function and mission of the Village Board. The Organizational Assessment Summary, which is presented below, summarizes the Village Board's answers to the following questions: What is our mission? Who is our customer? What does the customer value? What are our results? What is our plan?Organizational Assessment Summary The mission of the Brown Deer Village Board is to understand and responsibly fulfill the community vision. As elected representatives of the community, the Village Board is dedicated to working as a team to achieve this mission. The community vision is defined by the customers who are represented by the Village Board. Residents of the Village are the primary customers, and include people who live in, own property, and/or operate a business in Brown Deer. Through interactions with these customers, it is apparent that they highly value the quality of life, safety, and security that they enjoy by residing here. They also value receiving high-quality, cost-effective services from their local government, the accessibility of amenities throughout the community, aesthetically pleasing neighborhoods, a quality education system, a diverse community with "small town" feel, and the general assurance that their property values will continue to appreciate. Our customers also expect and deserve professional and effective representation by members of the Village Board who are trusted to lead the community. In addition to primary customers, the Village Board's supporting customers must be satisfied if the Board is to achieve positive results. Supporting customers include those who work or shop in the Village, members of civic groups and organizations, Village staff, realtors, and even the Village Board itself. Supporting customers in Brown Deer typically value the safety, security, accessibly of amenities, and ease of transportation to and from the Village. Achieving results is important to the Village Board because it indicates that the customers' wants and needs are being satisfied. Recently the Village Board has been successful in achieving results including the elimination of flooding problems and law suits, initiating planning efforts, and spurring new development. Results will include an active citizenry involved in the planning process, improved economic vitality and redevelopment throughout the community, and an increase in overall community pride. With the basic mission of the Village Board in mind, five basic goals have been created along with specific action steps and objectives. The goals can only be achieved by listening to and communicating with our customers, understanding what they value, and focusing our actions on achieving results. Our goals include prudent financial planning, appropriately dealing with vacant properties, rezoning and redevelopment, developing a community-wide vision plan, and appreciating who and what we are as a Village. This is our plan, but it is not a static one. It must be able to be modified during difficult times, fiscal or otherwise, and flexible enough for changing demographics, Village Board members, or Village staff. |
