Summer Reading Program

For children 12 and under
May 28th – August 21st

Starting Friday May 28th you can sign up for the 2021 Children’s Summer Reading program via Beanstack: 

Read for a total of 20 hours 
This includes having someone else read to you. You can read books, eBooks, magazines, graphic novels, or listen to books on cd. They all count towards your total!

There are 2 levels for this program 
Level 1: read for 10 hours and you’ll receive your prize pack of coupons and other fun stuff
Level 2: read for 10 more hours and you’ll receive an entry for our Grand Prize Drawing

After you have completed the program:
Keep reading! For every extra 2 hours you read, you will earn another entry into the Grand Prize Drawing! Also, all kids who participate in a program will be given a raffle ticket code they can enter into their Beanstack account. All kids who stop by the library 10 times this summer will also earn a raffle ticket code. Come to the reference desk to claim your card and first stamp. Collect 9 more and you’ll earn a raffle ticket code!

 Ongoing Programs

Animal Heroes Scavenger Hunt (In Person)
May 28th – August 21st

Animal heroes everywhere you turn! Every first and third Monday of the month, we will hide a new animal hero somewhere in the library. When you find that animal, take one of its trading cards. Collect the whole set, and bring your completed set back to the library at the end of the summer for a special animal prize!

Art Cart (Grab and Go)
Available the first and third Tuesday of each month
June 8th June 22nd July 6th July 20th Aug 3rd Aug 17th

Stop in the library and pick up an Art Cart bag (while supplies last). Inside will be a variety of art supplies and at least one project idea. Bring the bag home and make something awesome!

Relax & Refresh Kits (Grab and Go)
Available the first Friday of each month
June 4th July 2nd Aug 6th

Stop in the library each month to pick up a kit to help you take a break from daily stresses. Kits are intended to be simple, mindful, and include items such as puzzles, coloring sheets, easy crafts, and small treats.

Preschool Storytime (Virtual)
Mondays at 10:00AM
June 7th – August 16th

Join us for stories and songs!

Each Monday at 10:00AM we’ll be uploading a virtual version of one of our preschool storytimes to our Facebook page: Videos will only be available for a limited time, so be sure to check back weekly to catch the newest ones!

Special Events

Feed a Bee (Grab and Go)
Available beginning Thursday June 2nd

If you already have lavender in your yard, then you might have noticed that when it's in bloom, it attracts bees like a magnet. That's because the fragrant plant has both pollen and nectar to feed the bees. Decorate your own pot and plant some lavender seeds to help feed the bees (and grow pretty flowers for you to look at)!

BAD ART Contest (Grab and Go)
Supplies available beginning Tuesday June 1st

Entries accepted June 7th-12th

It’s back again, we just can’t get enough of BAD ART. Need to express yourself? Have absolutely no artistic ability? Make some BAD ART and let the world marvel at your brilliance. We’ll supply the basics and a few BAD ideas. You can use what we supply you, or anything you have at your home. No talent necessary. And hey – the WORST/WEIRDEST/STRANG-EST/MOST AWESOMELY BAD piece of artwork will win a prize. We’ll be displaying the BAD ART in our lobby as well as on Facebook, and we’ll be letting the public vote on their favorite BAD ART. Shown is the last winner of our BAD ART Contest.

Paint a Birdhouse (Grab and Go)

Available beginning Friday June 18th

Birds are beneficial for your garden; wild birds help manage pests, such as mosquitoes and Japanese beetles. This kit includes a preassembled wooden bird house, paint, and a brush. Decorate your house and hang it in your yard – then wait for the birds to move in!

3D Papercraft Puzzle (Grab and Go)

Available beginning Thursday June 24th

Papercrafts may now become a preoccupation for you - a good one! This grab-and-go contains detailed instructions with templates for you to make these minimalist and modern paper sculptures; think of them as a 3D paper puzzle. Includes the supplies for you to make both size whales and the baby fox.

Kohl’s Wild Theater (Streamed Live)
“Legend of the Trash Monster and Other Silly Scary Stories”

Tuesday June 29th at 5:30PM

As the sun sets over the Wisconsin woods, a rowdy band of scouts gather for the nightly meeting of the Silly Scary Stories Club. Audiences will assist the storytellers as they strive to outdo their friends and weave the creepiest yarn around the campfire. But which tale will be the scariest: the kid who threw trash on the ground, the bodybuilders who wasted food, or the royal badger and his selfish king? “Reduce, reuse, and recycle” are the lessons at the heart of this family-friendly variety show. Performance Length: 30 minutes.

Owl Pellet Dissection (Grab and Go)

Available beginning Wednesday June 30th

Dissect an owl pellet to find out more about what your owl ate. The concepts of natural history, ecology and predator/prey relationships may all be found in this mysterious fur ball.
